A Persistent Neighbour
Jumping on the Running trend in covid Josh smashed out his first half mara without a race in the covid lock down days. Running back then because there were no gyms open and it was the only form of exercise he had. More recently he's got back into completing his first official half marathon. Chasing his brother around at the 2XU Wellness Run, with the aim to stay in eyesight of him and ending with a super quick time of 1hr 33min. Running a lot faster than he thought he might with catching his brother as the biggest motivator.
Unsure whether or not to go all in on a Marathon next or to do another Half Mara? I was trying to influence him to give the big one a crack this year, with plenty of time to train and has taken the biggest step, that way after the Mara he can decide if he likes it or wants to stick to the halves. Especially since he's already running 5 times a week and going to the gym 3-4 times a week as well.
Often on his runs he kept bumping into his neighbour, @tomadair_ Run No. 10 who kept suggesting that he come down to @run.southyarra , which he leads. This went on for a few months, then after giving them a follow, before now coming to his 2nd Session and enjoying the 1st he came back. It is fascinating how often you put off going to meet new people, and interact with new groups, when it's not as bad in the end. Like myself and others how it takes longer than it needed to, to come down and be a part of a group.
We also touched a bit drinking with mates how often one the ways to catch up is often over a drink and how it can be a bit hard to say no in the environment especially when everyone else is doing it. If you go to the cricket or footy or even for a casual catch up. Even the process of just trying to reduce the amount is an effort more socially than it is personally. It was great to cover a few other topics and a few laughs as we cut 3 laps of the tan. Give a run club a go👌
